Retail Portfolio Management
Tarter Econometrics recently completed development of a large-scale retail portfolio management package for use by the brokerage arm of a national bank which manages $580 billion in retail assets. The system is also accessible to qualifying clients from approximately 100 associate firms.
Institutional Portfolio Management
We presently have multiple applications involved in the management of institutional portfolios, including large pension funds.
Fixed Income Derivatives Valuation Systems
The proper valuation of fixed income instruments and derivatives requires powerful mathematical algorithms, superior forecasting models, and significant processing power. Tarter Econometrics excels in all of these categories. We presently have deployed several models of instruments with complex embedded options, and we are currently working on several exotic emerging derivative classes.
Data Interfaces
For many business units, the process of scheduling and automating data retrieval and processing is one of the most challenging and expensive aspects of systems development. A skilled development team that is experienced in working with specific providers can dramatically accelerate development time and reduce costs. Our recent projects have included extensive work with data providers such as Bloomberg, FactSet, TM3, Axys, Thompson Financial Services, StateStreet, Russell, Mellon, and a host of others.
Commissions Tracking System
In order to evaluate the profitability impact of a high net worth group’s analysis team, Tarter Econometrics developed a software package that automated the process of data retrieval, statistical analysis, and reporting. This system was able to control for normal variation in the data and to estimate the real value the group was providing to the firm. Moreover, the system was engineered to update its analysis on a regular, ongoing basis for senior management.
Optimal Commodity Pricing
Tarter Econometrics has developed frameworks for optimal strategic pricing that take into account market movements, competitor strategies, demand elasticities, and changing input factor supply functions.
Point-of-Sale Automation & Optimization
Our development teams have done extensive work developing solutions to issues inherent in many existing point-of-sale (POS) systems. Our work in solving problems created by these systems has given us insight into optimal ways to analyze and use the data they stockpile.
Strategy Reverse-Engineering
Tremendous information is embedded in a competitor’s strategic decisions. Often, model updates cannot use this information efficiently, so estimates of a competitor’s key variables lag months or years behind. We specialize in a class of models that are able to use new information efficiently to dynamically retrieve the most accurate portrait of a competitor’s positions.
Duration Portraits
A mutual fund’s net asset value (NAV) can be used to obtain estimates of its duration or interest rate risk exposure. However, these estimates often lag by as much as six months. Tarter Econometrics has developed a model that is able to provide a much more accurate daily portrait of a fund’s exposure.
Terminal Access Automation
Firms and institutions routinely need access to data that is awkwardly stored within large legacy data warehouses. Often, the only method of obtaining this data is through manual entry and duplication. We recently developed a powerful system for automating this process. Our software is capable of simulating hundreds of users working in parallel to perform tasks such as data retrieval or data entry. This innovation has led to considerable cost savings and superior performance for numerous clients.
Distributed Programming Language
In order to facilitate the task of data entry and data retrieval, Tarter Econometrics has developed a scripting language that enables users to automate repetitious sequences of keystrokes, even those that include complex heuristic rules. Our scripting language platform includes a sophisticated integrated development environment (IDE) that makes automation easy, even for novice programmers.
Wireless Network Interface
Recently, in association with Bluel Technologies, we have innovated a cross-platform interface to a proprietary wireless solution that is now positioning towards broad market entry. It is capable of managing hundreds of networking devices at once, additionally providing real-time charting and user-customizable unit scaling.
For another client, we built a visual modeling tool for steam path audits. The tool analyzed the thermodynamic properties of steam turbines to justify repairs based on Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
